Description
In 1896, a book appeared in Vienna which was to revolutionize Jewish life and Jewish political thinking as no other book did in thousands of years. That book was Theodor
Herzl's
landmark "
The Jewish State
" (“Der Judenstaat’).
Herzl’s prophetic analysis of Jewish realities in Europe and his prognosis of Zionism as the only sound solution for “the Jewish problem” began as a journalist’s noble vision but became a political idealism of an entire people.
The secret of Herzl’s influence undoubtedly lies in the wholeness of the Zionist political conception which Herzl and his
Judenstaat
brought to the dispersed Jewish people bereft of a normal national existence.
Living in physical subjugation and psychological depression, the
Judenstaat
was the call to national renaissance and the great vision of Israel re-established as a free nation.
